Head Boy and Girl
Once nominated as a Year 6 Prefect, there is a school vote to decide who should have the prestigious position of Head Boy and Girl for the year, ably supported by Deputies. The main role is to support the Headteacher and school leaders in promoting and representing the school as key ambassadors. The Head Boy and Girl and their Deputies are excellent role models, have super communication skills and uphold our school values at all times.
Year 6 Prefects and Captains
Children in Year 6 can apply for the role of Prefect, to aid the smooth running of the school. They are involved in assisting the smooth running of the school and have various responsibilities across a school day. There is also the position of Sports Captain or House Captain for each of the school's four House Teams.
We gather children's views in lots of ways. Through pupil questionnaires we identify strengths to be celebrated and areas for development, which are then included in the School Development Plan.
Pupil Voice Committees
We also have a number of Committees, linked to certain subjects or aspects, that children can be voted onto. These are School Council, E-Cadets (who promote safety online), the Eco Committee (who promote environmental matters), Global Reporters (who promote current issues and news reports around the world|, Energy Boosters (who promote health and fitness initiatives) and Outdoor Learning Reps ( who promote Outdoor learning and Forest School activities).
The Worry Box
As well as having two full-time Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), who see children on a referral basis, there are always adults that children can talk to in school. In addition to this, we have 'Worry Boxes' in KS2 classrooms where children can write any concern they have. This has been successful in providing further opportunity for children to share and alleviate any concerns.
As a whole school, guided by the School Council, the children made a video about one of our Core Values - Friendship, to show how important this is to us at St Nicholas.
