St Nicholas Church of England Primary School

Christian Ethos

At St Nicholas School, our Christian ethos is at the heart of everything we do. We are a nurturing and inclusive Church school, founded in 1833 by the Rector of St Nicholas Church, William Russell. His aim was to provide the children of Shepperton with an education inspired by Christian values, and this aim continues for our school today. We welcome children of all faiths and none, and we strive to create a community where everyone feels safe, supported, and inspired to live life in all its fullness (John 10:10).

We continue to maintain strong links with St Nicholas Church today. Clergy members regularly visit to lead Worship, guide our children through ‘Godly Play’ bible story sessions and support the Religious Education curriculum. Rector Carole George is a member of the school's Governing Body.

Our shared Christian values of kindness, trust, courage, confidence, wisdom and curiosity are informed by the teachings of Jesus Christ. These values guide our relationships, our teaching, and our vision for every child to flourish and are woven into all aspects of school life.

We believe that education is not only about academic achievement but also about developing character, compassion, and a sense of purpose. We incorporate Christian teachings and celebrations into our curriculum and school events to foster spirituality and community among children of all backgrounds.

Christianity's emphasis on the importance of other people motivates our school to develop a strong sense of community among all Staff, children and families. One of our ‘4 Rs’ is Relationships. Positive relationships contribute to a child's academic success, emotional development, and overall well-being. Children thrive when they feel safe, valued, and understood. Positive relationships with Staff and peers help reduce anxiety and build confidence. When children have strong, trusting relationships they are more likely to engage in learning. Strong relationships between Staff and families foster trust and collaboration. When parents feel welcomed and involved, children benefit from consistent support at home and school.

Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to guide me and light my path.”

Our school vision is rooted in the Christian belief in the value of every individual; aiming to help each child reach their full potential as a unique creation of God. We nurture and develop the whole child academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally and physically.
